Making new friends and growing your support network
So, number 2 of the super duper top ten list of reasons to stay in Thailand with our ED Visa program is that, quite simply, you’re going to make friends. That’s right, real friends, in the real world – nothing to do with social media and people that you can’t bear to hear about from back in the school days. Bangkok has a teeming population of approximately 8.2 million people, yet it’s very easy in our daily lives to feel isolated and shut ourselves off from the overwhelming traffic and noise of the inner city. The concept and problem of loneliness is becoming a staple study among psychologists and scientists worldwide. One of the reasons could simply be that we are spending more time chatting on social media rather than engaging in quality, offline interactions. Another reason could be that it’s always easier to be lazy and turn on the TV, Netflix or any other source of entertainment. Some Asian nations even offer hugs for rent, or even a dinner partner to join you via Skype while dining alone in your apartment. All for a fee, of course. While these services may indeed fill a need for a paying customer who suffers from loneliness, specifically, one thing is for sure is that having a support group or network of friendships, through some kind of offline community setting will certainly help you to feel welcome and more connected when living abroad. The truth is, many of us have great memories of sharing time with our classmates when we went to school, but there’s no reason why we really can’t use that to fulfil deeper human needs, as adults. Being part of our ED Visa Thai Courses while staying in Bangkok will mean that you get this chance to enjoy the city, its culture and get to know people from all over the world. You will also no doubt learn a thing or two about the other cultures where your classmates are from, as well as getting to grips with the Thai language, which in turn will also help you to settle in and feel more comfortable. The good thing is now that you are making new classmates, they may not mind you copying their homework, if you haven’t done it! Lol. Just kidding…..not.
