What Are a Work Permit and a Business Visa?
Do you know what a work permit (Work Permit) and a business visa (Visa Non-B) are and how they are different?
A work permit is a work authorization in Thailand issued to foreigners who will come to work in the country. It is issued by the Department of Employment, Ministry of Labor.
A Visa Non-B or business visa is a permit to travel to Thailand for work. It is issued by the Thai consulate, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, or the Immigration Bureau.
To work legally in Thailand, both permits must be applied for together—neither one can be missing.
Steps for Applying for a Work Permit and Business Visa for the First Time
Apply for a 90-day business visa (Visa Non-B) from the Thai consulate in your country or the Immigration Bureau in Thailand.
Once you receive the visa, immediately apply for a Work Permit (Tor Tor 1) valid for one year at the Department of Employment within 30 days.
After receiving the Work Permit, renew the Business Visa (Visa Non-B) for one year at the Immigration Bureau within 30 days.
